How Bank of America Shows Up in Sports

Updated on August 28, 2026

From the FIFA World Cup to two of the world's most iconic marathons, Bank of America has built a highly visible sports sponsorship portfolio spanning soccer, running and golf.

For a bank, sports sponsorships aren't just logos on a jersey. They're how a national brand shows up in the places people gather, celebrate and give back. Bank of America has built its sports strategy around that idea – and in 2026, its biggest stage yet arrived on home soil with the FIFA World Cup 26.

The headline: Bank of America and the FIFA World Cup 26

Bank of America served as the Official Bank Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 26 – and became FIFA's first-ever global sponsor in the banking category. With the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico and matches across 11 U.S. host cities, the bank built a nationwide activation designed to reach fans well beyond the stadiums.

The centerpiece was community access rather than pure advertising. A few highlights:

  • BofA Fan Bands: More than 2 million collectible bracelets and more than 10 million customizable beads were planned to be made available to fans.
  • Military and first responders: Through Vet Tix, Bank of America provided free FIFA World Cup 26 tickets to eligible veterans, active-duty military members and first responders.
  • Community soccer: Bank of America worked with Visa and Street Soccer USA to bring Street Soccer Parks to all 11 U.S. host cities.
  • Cardholder access: Eligible Bank of America Visa cardholders had opportunities to win hospitality packages to FIFA World Cup 26 knockout matches through a sweepstakes tied to qualifying everyday purchases. A no-purchase entry method was also available.

The bank also tied the tournament to the country's 250th-anniversary year with civic initiatives, including support for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and conservation of historic presidential portraits through the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery – positioning the sponsorship as a broad community-and-culture play, not just a soccer one.

As FIFA's first-ever global banking sponsor, Bank of America turned a soccer tournament into a nationwide community program across 11 host cities.

The endurance franchises: Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Boston Marathon

Long before the World Cup, running was the bank's signature sport. Bank of America is the title sponsor of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. The 2025 race generated an estimated $756 million in economic impact for the Chicago metropolitan area.

Bank of America is also the presenting sponsor of the Boston Marathon, where the 2024 race helped raise roughly $45.7 million through the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program – a reminder that these events double as major fundraising engines for local nonprofits.

Golf, David Beckham and the bigger idea

Round out the portfolio with Bank of America's Champion Partner role at The Masters and David Beckham, a global brand ambassador for the bank's Sports with Us program, and a pattern emerges. Bank of America's sports partnerships consistently pair a marquee event with a community or charitable component.

Sports with Us is Bank of America's broader effort to use the reach of sports to support communities and expand access to athletic opportunities. That same idea runs through its World Cup initiatives, marathon partnerships and other sports programs.

Here's the portfolio at a glance:

For a prospective customer, none of this is a reason on its own to choose a card. But it does say something about the institution behind the card: a brand that invests heavily in major sporting events and pairs that visibility with community access, charitable fundraising and local investment.
